Splendida giornata all’abbazia di San Martino delle scale dove abbiamo visitato la più grande abbazia attiva d’Italia.
I soci sono confluiti a San Martino delle Scale sia dalla provincia di Palermo che dalla Provincia di Catania, ed abbiamo avuto dei graditissimi ospiti, gli amici Giorgio e Marusca con l’inseparabile Teo provenienti da Venezia e l’amico Vincenzo proveniente dalla Svizzera.
Grazie all’amico e storico Igor Gelarda che ci ha guidati passo passo nella bella ed interessantissima visita ed abbiamo conosciuto alcuni dei luoghi più importanti dell’imponente monastero che oggi ospita solo 12 monaci, rispetto al passato che ne ha visti ben 300.
L’Abbazia nata ai tempi di papa Gregorio Magno nel V secolo è stata poi ricostruito nel 1347 e possiede delle bellezze veramente incredibili ed abbiamo avuto modo di visitare la Chiesa, molteplici sale tra cui la sala dove sono custodite delle bellissime opere in cera racchiuse all’interno di teche in vetro, il refettorio, la farmacia ed il museo etnografico.
Ringraziamo anche i simpatici monaci che ci hanno accolto con il loro sorriso e la loro spontaneità tra cui don Bernardo, don Mariano e don Peppino.
Alla fine della visita guidata è iniziata la degustazione delle buonissime birre prodotte artigianalmente in loco, la birra bionda che è stata gustata insieme ad un buonissimo formaggio pecorino di Godrano e la birra bionda accompagnata da una gustosissima fetta di cassata siciliana al forno……ottimi connubi e assolutamente strepitose ambedue.
Un ringraziamento speciale va quindi all’amico Igor GELARDA che ci ha accompagnato per tutte le fasi della visita, a cui abbiamo consegnato una targa ricordo dell’evento, ricevendo a sua volta l’interessantissimo libro da lui scritto dal titolo “Una finestra sulla Palermo che fu” , edito dalla casa editrice Nuova Ipsa, che è acquistabile anche su Amazon, ed un ulteriore ringraziamento va alle ragazze che ci hanno accompagnato nella degustazione delle birre d’abbazia, Angela e Chiara Pellerito.
A fine visita pranzo conclusivo al ristorante Vecchio Mulino dove abbiamo gustato l’apposito menù a noi dedicato che abbiamo particolarmente gradito.
Prima di salutarci abbiamo proceduto al “battesimo” dell’ultima Smart arrivata nel Club, una 450 cabrio che è stata battezzata con il nome di “Perla Nera” con l’apposizione del logo del Sicilia Smart Club e quindi a seguire la distribuzione dei confetti di rito per tutti i presenti.
Un’esperienza veramente indimenticabile.
Arrivederci quindi al prossimo Meeting……l’evento più adrenalinico dell’anno sta per arrivare…….vi aspettiamo il 17 e 18 Ottobre per la 10° edizione dello Smart Time Attack all’interno dello splendido Autodromo della Valle dei Templi a Racalmuto!!!!!
Sarà un’edizione veramente “SPECIALE”…..
A wonderful day at the Abbey of San Martino delle Scale where we visited the largest active abbey in Italy.
Members gathered at San Martino delle Scale from both the province of Palermo and the Province of Catania, and we had very welcome guests, our friends Giorgio and Marusca with the inseparable Teo coming from Venice and our friend Vincenzo coming from Switzerland.
Thanks to our friend and historian Igor Gelarda who guided us step by step through the beautiful and very interesting visit, and we got to know some of the most important places of the imposing monastery which today houses only 12 monks, compared to the past which saw as many as 300.
The Abbey, born in the time of Pope Gregory the Great in the 5th century, was later rebuilt in 1347 and possesses truly incredible beauties, and we had the opportunity to visit the Church, multiple rooms including the room where beautiful wax works enclosed inside glass display cases are kept, the refectory, the pharmacy and the ethnographic museum.
We also thank the friendly monks who welcomed us with their smile and spontaneity including Don Bernardo, Don Mariano and Don Peppino.
At the end of the guided tour, the tasting of the delicious craft beers produced on-site began, the blonde beer which was tasted together with a very good Godrano pecorino cheese and the blonde beer accompanied by a very tasty slice of baked Sicilian cassata… excellent combinations and both absolutely amazing.
A special thanks therefore goes to our friend Igor GELARDA who accompanied us through all the phases of the visit, to whom we presented a commemorative plaque of the event, receiving in turn the very interesting book written by him entitled “A window on the Palermo that was”, published by the Nuova Ipsa publishing house, which can also be purchased on Amazon, and a further thanks goes to the girls who accompanied us in the tasting of the abbey beers, Angela and Chiara Pellerito.
At the end of the visit, a concluding lunch at the Vecchio Mulino restaurant where we enjoyed the special menu dedicated to us which we particularly liked.
Before saying goodbye, we proceeded with the “baptism” of the latest Smart to arrive in the Club, a 450 cabriolet which was christened with the name of “Black Pearl” with the affixing of the Sicilia Smart Club logo and then followed by the distribution of the traditional sugared almonds for all those present.
A truly unforgettable experience.
See you then at the next Meeting… the most adrenaline-pumping event of the year is about to arrive… we are waiting for you on October 17th and 18th for the 10th edition of the Smart Time Attack inside the splendid Autodromo della Valle dei Templi in Racalmuto!!!!! It will be a truly “SPECIAL” edition…..
