Meeting di totale relax sabato 13 Settembre con un magnifico pomeriggio all’interno della piscina dell’Hotel Tre Torri dove abbiamo comodamente pernottato, con serata ad Agrigento, con cena al bellissimo ristorante “CAPOTAVOLA” ubicato lungo il bellissimo belvedere da dove si domina la Valle dei Templi di Agrigento,
Domenica mattina, colazione e partenza alla volta di Naro, dove sono confluiti tutti gli altri equipaggi provenienti da tutte le province siciliane e ci siamo ritrovati alle falde del Castello Chiaramontano di NARO dove ci attendeva il gentilissimo Presidente della locale PRO LOCO Dott. Calogero VERDE e la nostra guida, Sig. Paolo VERDE che ci hanno sapientemente guidati per tutte le visite che hanno per l’appunto avuto inizio al Castello Chiaramontano, già edificato nel IX secolo, rappresenta l’emblema della città.
Sorto come fortilizio militare, divenne nei secoli residenza dei signori locali e carcere mandamentale, fino a trasformarsi oggi in luogo di cultura e memoria. Le sue mura non custodiscono soltanto l’eredità araba, normanna e aragonese, ma anche le vicende più recenti della comunità narese, come i tumulti popolari del gennaio 1945 che vi ebbero uno dei loro epicentri.
Ci siamo quindi spostanti nella centralissima Piazza Garibaldi, dove l’amministrazione Comunale aveva predisposto l’area di sosta ed esposizione per le vetture partecipanti ed abbiamo visitato la Chiesa di San Francesco, con l’annesso convento e la Biblioteca Feliciana, che è uno dei primi possedimenti dell’Ordine dei Frati Francescani sorti subito dopo la canonizzazione di San Francesco, sito nel cuore urbano della città e vanta oltre 7 secoli di storia. Unica nel suo genere la sua sagrestia, finemente decorata con affreschi, sculture marmoree e lignee che è considerata uno scrigno barocco a testimonianza della fioritura artistica che fece di Naro una delle città più vitali della Sicilia barocca.
Da li abbiamo successivamente raggiunta la Chiesa di San Calogero che rappresenta il cuore pulsante della devozione popolare. Qui, ogni 11 gennaio e durante la festa estive del 18 giugno, la comunità rinnova il legame con il proprio patrono, il santo eremita venerato per avere protetto la città da calamità e carestie. La statua del Santo, capolavoro della scultura lignea, ricco di decorazioni in argento è infatti custodita nella cripta della chiesa, ed è portata in processione tra le vie, divenendo simbolo identitario che ha attraversato secoli di storia locale.
Ultimate le interessantissime visite, abbiamo infine raggiunto la “Tenuta VITANZA” di Anna CANGEMI, dove dopo aver visitato l’annesso parco con tantissimi animali abbiamo gustato le ottime specialità locali.

Meeting of total relaxation on Saturday 13 September with a magnificent afternoon inside the swimming pool of the Torri hotel where we comfortably stayed overnight, with an evening in Agrigento, with dinner at the beautiful restaurant “Capotavola” located along the beautiful Belvedere from where the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento dominates,
Sunday morning, breakfast and departure to Naro, where all the other crews from all the Sicilian provinces were merged and we found ourselves at the slopes of the Chiaramontano castle of Naro where the very kind president of the local Pro Loco Dr. Calogero Verde awaited us and our guide, Mr. Paolo Verde who were expertly guided us for all the visits that have started the Castello Chiaramontano, already built in the IX century, of the city.
Established as a military fort, it became the residence of local lords and mandate prison in the centuries, until it transformed today in place of culture and memory. Its walls not only keep the Arab, Norman and Aragonese legacy, but also the most recent events of the Narese community, such as the popular riots of January 1945 who had one of their epicenter.
We therefore moved to the central Piazza Garibaldi, where the municipal administration had prepared the parking area and exhibition for the participating cars and visited the church of San Francesco, with the adjoining convent and the Feliciana library, which is one of the first possessions of the Order of the Franciscan friars that arose immediately after the canonization of San Francesco, located in the urban heart of the city and boasts over 7 centuries of history. It is unique in its kind, its sacristy, finely decorated with frescoes, marble and wooden sculptures which is considered a baroque casket to testify to the artistic flowering that Naro made one of the most vital cities of Baroque Sicily.
From there we have subsequently reached the church of San Calogero which represents the beating heart of popular devotion. Here, every 11 January and during the summer party of 18 June, the community renews the link with its patron, the Hermit Holyte revered for having protected the city from calamity and famines. The statue of the saint, a masterpiece of wooden sculpture, full of silver decorations is in fact kept in the crypt of the church, and is brought to procession between the streets, becoming an identity symbol that has crossed centuries of local history.
The very interesting visits are completed, we finally reached the “Tenuta Vitanza” by Anna Cangemi, where after visiting the attached park with many animals we enjoyed the excellent local specialties.
Appointment at the next meeting, the most adrenaline meeting of the year, which will see us participate in the “Valle dei Templi” Autodrome in Racalmuto on 18 and 19 October!
